Melbourne and Essendon Split Their 2026 Encounters
The Demons and Bombers shared the honours across their two meetings in 2026, with each club recording a convincing 45-point victory.
Their first encounter came during Gather Round at Adelaide Oval, where Essendon produced one of the season’s surprise results. The Bombers defeated Melbourne 17.11 (113) to 10.8 (68), ending a 17-match losing streak stretching back to May 2025.
Essendon turned the contest in the third quarter, kicking six goals to one to take control and secure a much-needed victory.
Melbourne responded emphatically when the teams met again at the MCG in Round 14.
The Demons won 13.17 (95) to 6.14 (50) in front of 41,438 spectators, with Kysaiah Pickett producing an outstanding performance of 32 disposals, three goals and 10 score involvements.
The result demonstrated how quickly fortunes can change between these two sides. Essendon will be hoping to reproduce its Gather Round form, while Melbourne will look to continue the dominance it showed in their most recent meeting.
